MY HOMESTAY EXPERIENCE

Written by Mancala

A letter to my host mom:

“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met. You are so kind, bright, caring and funny. Your smile make me smile and your laugh makes me laugh. I cannot possible thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. You welcomed me into your home and accepted me into your family. You treated me like I was your daughter and I started calling you ma. You fed me the most delicious meals, you wrapped my bruises from previous adventures and you took care of me when I was feeling under the weather. I am forever grateful for you. You are the most selfless woman I have ever met. Until we meet again,

With so much love,

Mancala”

With a heart full of love, I am so sad to be departing the newest addition to my family. My host family welcomed me into their homes and into their hearts and i truly could not be more grateful. My host mom was the most loving and caring woman I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I’ve seen her give her own plate of food to the kitten who is begging but has already ate probably double his weight in the last hour. She has insisted I eat more when i have already been served a portion enough for two. And although my Spanish is not the greatest, we were able to share so many beautiful moments together, verbally and not. Moments like playing with our little kitten or chasing our ugly dog or me trying to talk about my day in Spanish. These are just a few of the moments I will miss.

And to my host brother, stay out of trouble you stinker. He was on the shyer side but he came around by day 2. We went from playing Dobble (Spanish Spot It) in silence on day one to him constantly reminding me of the one singular time that i lost (causally leaving out the fact that I had won every other round) He reminded me so much of my brother when he was younger and it was so sweet.  He had both helped and hurt my spanish so if you see me call a grape a granada, it’s not mi cupla.

I am so incredibly happy to have had this amazing experience with the wonderful people I got to call my family. I, once again, want to mention how I am forever grateful for them for making this experience possible. We have shared so many memories and I have learned so much all thanks to them. With a full and heavy heart, it’s time to say goodbye.

Until next time,

Mancala <3
