What is a Hike-a-Thon and what’s its purpose?

A Hike-a-Thon is an opportunity to raise money for Carpe Mundi students through friends, family, and work as you work towards hiking/walking/running your ideal number of miles.

The purpose of the Hike-a-Thon is two fold:

First, it's a fundraiser for Carpe Mundi's programming, raising funds to support Portland-based, low-income college students in accessing a year of mentorship that includes an experiential education study abroad semester. During a year with Carpe Mundi, students push their comfort zones, learn more about themselves and world, are exposed to healthy lifestyles, and participate in outdoor adventures that encourage them to be more active individuals. Funds from the Hike-a-Thon will make these experiences accessible to more young people.

Second, it’s to get our community outdoors and moving! We'll challenge our students, alumni, and supporters to get outside and log miles to raise funds. Whether it's taking evening walks in the neighborhood or tackling new trails, we want to encourage our community to be outside, be active, and push their own comfort zones, just as our students do. Last year our Hike-a-Thon participants logged over 1300 miles in a two-week span. We believe that moving our bodies, working as a community, and trying new things can empower individuals to achieve new heights.

This year we have two top prizes!

• The Top Individual Fundraiser will receive a Cotopaxi Allpa 42L Travel Pack

• The Top Individual Hiker will receive TWO Cotopaxi Kapai 3L Hip Packs and TWO Cotopaxi Classic Dad Hats

We also have prizes for anyone who reaches our suggested goals!

• Any individual that fundraises $300 or more will receive a pair of ToughCutie socks

• Any individual that hikes more than 15 miles will get a Carpe Mundi sticker!
